Painted pine, medium density fiber board, mirrored glass, textured paper

Roberto Cardinale presents theMarcel Breuer Building designed by Hungarian-born, Bauhaus-trained architect Marcel Breuer.

“My first visit to the former Whitney Museum of American Art by Marcel Breuer in NYC was an epiphany of architecture and sculptural form for me. This love affair with sacred forms took off in the mid-1980s when I started to build wooden sculptures of churches, synagogues, chapels, and towers.” —Roberto Cardinale

A daring and innovative statement, the artist’s interpretation of the museum honors the site for the modern and organic revelation that it is. Soft mixtures of textured paper expertly honor the facade of the structure, nodding to the sculpture’s original counterpart. Expertly and with master skill, the artist uses mirrored film to emulate the reflection of each irregular three dimensional window.

This piece is part of Roberto Cardinale's exhibitionMarcel Breuer's Whitney, exhibitingbeautiful examples of contemporary art documenting a spiritual and architectural legacy.
